Boston Spaceships are real…

Yep, it’s Pollard central here today at RetroLowFi. But, seriously, though, check this out.
Pitchfork got the jump on the first song (or, well, last song on the album) from Pollard’s new group Boston Spaceships. Boston Spaceships is Pollard, Chris Slusarenko (from both Guided by Voices and The Takeovers), and John Moen (drummer for The Decemberists). And if you think this is just another fly-by-night Pollard one-off, you should probably know that Mr. Robert “I Really Don’t Want To Get Into a Van Anymore” Pollard will actually be touring with Boston Spaceships. In a van. Tour dates are below, if you don’t believe me.
If you play the song at the end of the post here and you’re still not convinced, then this snippet from the press release should set you straight: “Give Brown Submarine a spin or two - it’ll make you feel like a kid again, too. Or go ahead, ignore Boston Spaceships and keep yourself busy finding the next Vampire Weekend, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah or Ned’s Atomic Dustbin. But if you save this album on your shelf and pull it out a few years from now, we guarantee it will make you very very happy…”
Sold.
On a more editorial side note, as much as I love GBV and Pollard’s solo work, I am a total sucker for the underrated likes of Lifeguards, The Takeovers, Airport 5, Speak Kindly of Volunteer Fire Department, and other Pollard side-work, so I couldn’t be more excited to hear and see this band.
