A bit of Nostalgia for P. Vert’s “Stickball”!

One of the most enduring articles we’ve ever had on RetroLowFi has been our article attempting to make sense of the terrifying and mysterious single by an artist known as P. Vert… “Stickball”. (Read the original article and hear the song by clicking here).

Through numerous reader comments, we’ve learned that P. Vert was in fact none other than the shady Tony Bruno, a singer so shrouded in mystery that his first record label was actually just a front for his bookie. We’ve also learned that copies of “Stickball” were mistakenly (or not) shipped out as Partridge Family singles… and if you’ve got one, I think that’s vastly cooler than even owning the original 45.

And now, thanks to a faithful RetroLowFi reader named Mike, we’ve actually got a snippet of a phone interview with Mr. Bruno talking about his involvement with “Stickball”. Some of his claims are even more far-fetched than the record itself, which only deepens the mystery.

We implore you to take a listen to the original song - with no children present, please - and then listen to this enticing slice of history. It’s pretty fascinating stuff, and I’m not just saying that. Seriously… download it.
