New Grenada “Model Citizen” (Asaurus 2008)

Holy crap, CD-R label Asaurus pressed a CD.

Given the label’s devotion to handmade products, you’d have to assume that New Grenada’s Model Citizen four-song EP, one of the only records the label has professionally pressed, would have to be amazing. And indeed, it’s pretty fucking good. (But Asaurus fans shouldn’t worry too much about the whole pressing thing - the art is still handmade. It’s also a piece of living art, as the cover is actually several transparencies laid over each other.)

Model Citizen is the band’s first release since their Steve Albini-produced Modern Problems. On this EP, the band tears through four carnal rock songs tinged with pop. The band sounds like an odd combination of Dinosaur Jr. and Weezer. And that’s certainly a good thing for us!

In fact, Asaurus is begging you to download and listen to “January 1st.” We’ll join them in that task.
