BREAKING NEWS: The Shins… America’s second favorite band!

It’s not a huge stretch to think that ‘indie rock’ needs to come up with a new name, and quickly. Not only are all of the records you used to call ‘your little secret’ available at Best Buy now, but… well, the rest of the world is listening to them as well. There’s no better proof than what has occured on this weeks Billboard charts. You ready?
The Shins latest album, Wincing The Night Away, has just made it’s chart debut at #2.
Number freakin’ TWO, people. This means that only Pretty Ricky was more popular in record stores that week. To put this in better perpective, this means that The Shins sold more records this week than newer releases by Justin Timberlake, Beyonce and The Beatles.
What. The. Crap.
A major high-five goes out to The Shins for their success, as well as Sub Pop’s promotional department for hyping a deserving group into the stratosphere. A week of sales topping 100,000 copies isn’t anything to snicker about in this day and age of file-sharing networks. It’s also proof positive that if a record is good enough, people will go to the store and buy it even though it’s easily obtained elsewhere for free. We can only hope that this is a sign of more upcoming chart surprises by great bands.
Heck, wouldn’t it be neat if the next Low record went into the Hot 200 album charts? The sky is the bleedin’ limit here because, thankfully… it looks like good music is back in style.
Why not order your very own copy of Wincing The Night Away from Sub Pop?
